Sustainability Report
To further our commitment to transparency, we published Westlake's seventh annual Sustainability report, which reports on our sustainability advances and initiatives in products and operations. This year, the report includes certain metrics established by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), and the Task Force on Climate-Related Disclosures (TCFD) Gap Assessment standards.
The company’s seventh voluntary annual update on sustainability innovations in products and continuous improvement in operations. The report also expands on the Company’s contributions to local communities as well as advancements in employee collaboration and professional development.
All of Westlake's greenhouse gas emission disclosures are based on Version 2023-06 of the SASB industry standard. All data and descriptions apply to Westlake's global operations for January 1, 2023 – December 31, 2023, unless stated otherwise or relevant data is minor or de minimis. Westlake's disclosures on these topics may evolve over time.
As Westlake continues to work on identifying new interim emissions-based goals and develop our longer-term sustainability strategy, Westlake is researching economically feasible technologies to help reduce our CO2e emissions intensity. These technologies could play a role in building a plan to establish updates and achievable interim carbon intensity reduction goals and ultimately develop a path to reach operational net-zero direct carbon emissions on or before 2050.
While Westlake has utilized third party verification or certification for certain product-specific claims related to the carbon profile of certain products, Westlake has not generally engaged any independent third party to verify greenhouse gas emissions data or the methods by which we track our progress toward achieving stated goals related to greenhouse gas emissions.
